Dr. Nand LalDr Nand Lal is internationally recognised as a leader in the field of Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors.
He has been continuously getting financial support for his research activities in this field from
Dept of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India. His research lab was converted into a National Facility
through a DST funding of about Rs 2.5 Crore. He has published about 90 papers with majority of them in international journals.
His papers are well cited in literature. Total citation index is more than 875. Some of the papers are even cited in text books.
Because of his research work, he was awarded prestigious post doc fellowships (Kyoto University Anniversary and DAAD)
for one year in Kyoto, Japan and for three months at Max-Planck Institute, Heidelberg, Germany. He attended large number
of conferences and chaired the sessions and also gave invited talks. Besides guiding large number (more than 50)
of M.Phil and M.Tech students, 12 students have been awarded Ph.D degrees under his supervision.
Dr Nand Lal obtained his education from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana. After completing his B.Sc (Hons) degree in Physics in 1970, he did his M.Sc. and Ph.D (all in Physics) in 1972 and 1976 respectively.
He joined Oil and Natural Gas Corporation in 1976, but his love for teaching and research brought him back within less than two years to Physics department of Kurukshetra University as lecturer to teach M.Sc students in 1978 where he became reader (now designated as Associate Professor) in 1985 . He was selected as Professor through open merit selection for heading the department of Geophysics in 1993. With his hard work and vision he could succeed in making this dept as one of the most developed depts. of the country.
Dr. Nand Lal combined a wide-range of administrative duties with teaching and research at Kurukshetra University. As a Dean, Faculty of Science of Kurukshetra University, he guided teaching & research activities and formulation of academic policies of nine science departments, chaired the meetings of faculty of science, organized many events including one mega event on the occasion of Bhabha Centenary Celebration year where 2000 students and researchers from Haryana participated in the conference. As Dean Research and Development of the university, he planned R & D activities of the university, formulated the rules and regulations for the execution of research projects and motivated the faculty for research.
Besides these major responsibilities, he also worked as International student advisor of the university and Vice-chairman of the senior secondary school on the campus. He contributed constructively as member of Administrative and Academic bodies of K.U. Kurukshetra such as Establishment Committee, University Court, Executive Council, Academic Council, Finance Committee, Admissions Committee and many Standing and Advisory Committees.
